One day at work I mentioned that I've never had fried green tomatoes and always wanted to try them. My coworker told me I needed to go to Hidden Manna to get true authentic southern fried green tomatoes. She was right - they were great and came with a yummy spicy sauce on the side. For our main courses, my husband chose fried fish and grits, I chose shrimp and grits, and my daughter chose Cajun macaroni and cheese with shrimp. We were able to choose our spice level with each dish which was nice, since my daughter likes mild, I prefer medium, and my husband is a "set me on fire please". person. We all loved our meals (and each other's) and the portions were so generous that we all brought half of our food home. We also wanted to save room for dessert! Our server recommended the key lime cheesecake, so my daughter and I shared that (and again, brought half of it home) and my husband had a giant piece of caramel pound cake that he will be eating for at least the next three days. The homemade sweet tea and lemonade are both perfect compliments to the food, especially on a hot summer day like the day we went. The restaurant itself is in a converted mansion that has a very homey feel. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the other customers that were there were also super fun to talk to. Eating at Hidden Manna is like eating at a longtime friend's home with delicious food made with lots of love. We will be regulars there, without a doubt.

Haven’t been here in a few years and as soon as I started eating I remembered how delicious they were! Had the classic breakfast but everything was made with precision you can taste it! Also, they have custard like sauce that is delicious with the waffle. Overall a solid 9/10 for sure

Our food was delicious and the service was great! We recommend the Cajun Mac n Cheese, Fried Catfish, Seafood Omelette (has Shrimp & Crab with fluffy eggs), Grits, Lobster Sauce, and Peach Cobbler, which were all delicious! The pancakes and the lemonade were just ok. The pound cake was too dry and not recommended.

A Creole Spirit at a Midwest Table There are meals you eat, and there are meals that gather you in, sit you down, and remind you why tables were invented in the first place. Our late lunch at Hidden Manna Café was firmly the latter. Black owned, proudly rooted, and joyfully expressive, this is soul food with a Creole Cajun wink. The vibration of New Orleans moves through the menu like a brass band drifting down a side street. You can taste the lineage. You can feel the influence. This is cooking with memory, passion, and swagger. We were three at the table and wasted no time beginning with the fried green tomatoes. Crisp without heaviness, their sweetness intact beneath a delicate golden crunch. The remoulade gleamed on the side with purpose, bright and assertive, slicing cleanly through each bite. It was a conversation starter in its own right. For mains, I chose the bluegill fillets. Expertly handled, tender and full of flavour, they carried themselves with quiet confidence. Alongside came a potato salad that was fluffy and comforting without being weighed down, and spinach laced with garlic that felt positively elegant on the palate. Across the table, catfish made an appearance, cooked with precision and brimming with depth. Collard greens arrived exactly as they should, soulful and assured, hitting every note. Service was warm and easy. The kind that feels natural rather than rehearsed. We finished our plates, settled the bill, and stayed. No one hurried us along. The dining room filled and turned over around us, a gentle swell of laughter and chatter. It was a pleasure to sit in a room alive with people enjoying great company and food that clearly matters. A heartfelt thank you to the whole team. This was not just a meal, but an afternoon well spent. Hidden Manna is a Creole foodie fever dream and absolutely not to be missed.

My husband and I hadn't been out on a date in a minute due to some health challenges. But, we went today ( 4/9/26) to The Hidden Manna Cafe in Matteson, Illinois. LORD, the food was so good. The give you a large serving. The service was impeccable. The Atmosphere was a Home type vibe. We ate so much, that I almost couldn't get up. Here is what we had. Delish.
